A study done on the image of the Poor Region. In this painting, Svabinsky attempted to express the spirit of the region, which stood next to Prague in his second home. The Poor region is considered to be a representative piece of Czech symbolic painting around 1900. It is obvious that the painter at the exhibitions in Paris realized what is lacking in Czech art. It was a sense of order and continuity, an overlap that is expressed by a symbol, or allegory,
and the courage to make a large, finished composition.

The very place of the Poor Country is one of the most beautiful landscapes in our art. Lights and shadows model the wavy terrain and the sky, occupying more than half of the area, creates a sense of freedom.

Studie provedená k obrazu Chudý kraj. V tomto obraze se Švabinský pokusil vyjádřit ducha kraje, který se stával vedle Prahy jeho druhým domovem. Chudý kraj je považován za reprezentativní dílo české symbolické malby kolem roku 1900. Je v něm patrno, že si malíř na výstavách v Paříži uvědomoval, co chybí českému umění. Byl to smysl pro řád a kontinuitu, přesah, který je vyjádřen symbolem, nebo alegorií,
a odvaha k velké, dokončené kompozici.

Samo dějiště Chudého kraje je jedním z nejkrásnějších obrazů krajiny v našem umění. Světla a stíny modelují zvlněný terén a obloha, zabírající více než polovinu plochy, navozuje pocit volnosti.
